Sri Lanka clinch Netball Asia Cup for the sixth time
Sri Lanka won the Asian Netball Championships for the sixth time when they beat hosts Singapore 63-53 in the championship final played in Singapore on Sunday. The team captained by Gayanjali Amarawansa remained unbeaten throughout the tournament to reach the final for the tenth time in history. The tournament which commenced in 1985 has seen Sri Lanka among the top three teams at each edition. Singapore and Malaysia and Hong Kong are the other teams to have won the title.
While Sri Lanka has won it six time now, their runner up Singapore has won it three times.
The Asia Cup winning Sri Lanka outfit consisted of skipper Amarawansa, Dulangi Wannithilaka, Tharjani Sivalingam, Semini Alwis, Hasitha Mendis, Janathi Perera, Divyanjali Perera, Bhashini de Silva, Chathurangi Jayasuriya, Malmi Hettiarachchi, Gayani Dissanayake and Dharshani Abeykoon.
