Sri Lanka Army and Navy promote over 5,400 personnel

In commemoration of the 14th National War Heroes’ Day, President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has promoted over 5,400 Sri Lanka Army and Navy personnel to their next ranks.

The promotions were announced yesterday (19) and took effect immediately.

In the Sri Lanka Army, 402 Officers (Regular and Volunteer Force) and 3,348 Other Ranks were promoted. The promotions included: seven Brigadiers to the rank of Major General, 19 Colonels to the rank of Brigadier, 29 Lieutenant Colonels to the rank of Colonel, 33 Majors to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, nine Majors to Temporary Lieutenant Colonel, 115 Captains to the rank of Major, three Captains (QM) to the rank of Major (QM), 97 Lieutenants to the rank of Captain, and 90 Second Lieutenants to the rank of Lieutenant (Regular Force & Volunteer Force)

In the Sri Lanka Navy, 1,731 personnel were promoted to their next higher rank. The promotions were made in recognition of the service and dedication of the personnel, and their contributions to the security of Sri Lanka, the PMD said.
