Sri Lanka allocates USD 30,000 for Emergency Welfare of Citizens in Israel amid tensions
Sri Lanka has designated a total of USD 30,000, with USD 20,000 from the government and USD 10,000 from the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau, for the welfare of Sri Lankans in Israel during emergencies, according to an official statement.
Nimal Bandara, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador in Israel, told journalists that these funds have been repatriated to the Embassy and will be utilized as needed. He noted that, following recent tensions, two Sri Lankans are still missing, and one individual has been injured. The Israeli Foreign Ministry has released a list of foreign nationals impacted by the conflict.
Approximately 8,000 Sri Lankans are employed in Israel, with 90 percent of them serving as caregivers in elderly care facilities. Despite the tension along the Gaza strip and Lebanon borders, the Ambassador assured that normalcy prevails in other parts of the country.
