Sri Lak star Dharshana felicitated

Hurdler Danuka Dharshana, who reached his personal best performance at the recently held National Sports Festival was felicitated by his club, Sri Lak Athletics Club for his outstanding performances this year at a function held recently.

The former Ambagamuwa Central athlete trained by Anura Bandara completed yet another successful year capping the season with the Best Athlete title at the 47th National Sports Festival.He was the winner of the Junior National Championships and the top performer among Sri Lankan participants in his pet event at the 101st National Athletics Championships.

His club awarded a cash prize of LKR 50,000.00 and a Sri Lak T-shirt in recognition of his outstanding performances.

He also received a medical sponsorship for the next four years (till 2027) from Sense Rehabilitation and Sport Hospital which joined hands with Sri Lak AC to support him in reaching his full potential. Dharshana’s cash award was sponsored by Jayantha Dasanayake, a member of the club.

Dharshana who reached his personal best of 50.59 seconds at the National Sports Festival is the third fastest Sri Lankan athlete over the 400m hurdles behind Olympian Harijan Rathnayake and Asian Championship medallist Asoka Jayasundara. His 50.59 seconds performance is also the fastest performance in the men’s 400 metres hurdles by a Sri Lankan during the last two decades. Sri Lak Athletics Club also recognized the contribution made by Danuka’s coach Bandara in absentia.

Apart from Danuka, there were three other Sri Lak AC athletes who excelled at the Junior National level. Ransini Perera (Under 18 girls’ 100m bronze medal), Yelani Pabasara (Under 20 women’s discus throw silver medal) and Avishka Gurusinghe (Under 23 men’s 800m and 1500m gold medal) who won medals at the 63rd Junior National Championships were felicitated for their achievements. They were awarded cash prizes and T-shirts.

Founder, Director and CEO of Sense Rehabilitation and Sports Hospital Minidu Bogahawattha and Jeewantha Edirisinghe the Marketing and Business Development Manager of Sense Rehabilitation and Sports Hospital were present at this felicitation.

Sri Lak AC President N.A.T. Jayasinghe, Vice Presidents, I.M. Ranasinghe, Manoj Mallawaarachchi, Vishwanatha Welikala, Members Mangala Karunarathna, Renuka Perera, Nimmi de Soyza and Guvindu Welikala were presented along with the Secretary Sameera Perera.
