Sri Jayewardenapura Excise officers nab suspect with spirits worth two million rupees
Officers of the Sri Jayewardenapura Excise station in a raid conducted recently arrested a person with 680 bottles of spirits in 12 polythene bags and a plastic can.
The suspect is a resident of Akuregoda, Battaramulla.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Excise (Western Province) M.Jayantha de Silva, the value of the spirits taken into custody was two million rupees.
The Assistant Commissioner said that the spirits were distributed to hooch dens in Kaluaggala and Akuregoda.
The suspect is to be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate.
The 43-year-old suspect worked as a mason and lost his job after contracting Covid-19. The raid was conducted by a team consisting of Sgts K.A.S.P.Perera, M.T.P.Cooray, Corporal Harsha Kumara, under the supervision of Inspector M.M.I.Mahawatte, on the instructions of Assistant Commissioner of Excise, Western Province (1) M.Jayantha de Silva and Excise Superintendent Upali Jayasinghe.
