Sputnik vaccine delay

Published

on

Sputnik V vaccinations were used exclusively in the Kandy district, some receiving it as far back as the last week of May. None has received the second dose of the vaccination. According to Gamaleya Institute, the makers of the vaccine, the second dose should be administered on the 21st day after the first. It is over eight weeks, or more since some people received the first dose.

India, which started using the Sputnik V much earlier than Sri Lanka, was having difficulty in getting the second doses on time. Under the circumstances, I cannot understand why Sri Lanka ordered them in the first place.

Will it serve any purpose to take it long after the prescribed date?
