Speaker requests MPs not to waste time by raising irrelevant points of order

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena yesterday requested MPs not to waste the time of Parliament by raising irrelevant points of order and maintain the decorum of the House.

Making a special statement at the commencement of the Parliament session for the year, Speaker Abeywardena said that it had been observed during the sessions last year that MPs from both government and the Opposition had abused their right to raise points of order and wasted valuable time in the process.

 “They attempted to disrupt sessions and several MPs used unparliamentary language. Therefore I urge the MPs of both sides to refrain from any action that amount to the degradation of dignity and decorum of the House and make use of time productively.”
