Southern Brave Women beat the Northern Superchargers Women in the Final of the Women’s hundred at Lord’s on Sunday, August 27. The win came on the back of two consecutive losses in finals in 2021 and 2022, culminating in a fitting swansong for vetran Anva Shrubsole.

Smriti Mandhana started off the Brave innings with a boundary, but was caught off Grace Ballinger on the very next ball to give the big final a dramatic start. Kate Cross got rid of Maia Bouchier soon after and the Southern Brave found themselves in early trouble. However, Georgia Adams joined Dani Wyatt at the crease as an anchor, scoring 27 off 28 while Wyatt scored swiftly at the other end, finishing with a defining 38-ball 59 before she was run-out by Kate Cross.

A stand of 87 off 63 balls laid the platform before a Freya Kemp cameo of 31 off 17 gave the Brave innings the late impetus, lifting them to 139-6 in a hundred balls. Kate Cross was the runaway star with the ball, picking up three wickets and effecting an important runout.

In response, opener Marie Kelly lost her stumps early for a duck to Lauren Bell, who also got rid of Phoebe Litchfield soon after to set the Superchargers back early. The rest of the middle order continued to get starts, but continued to throw them away without capitalising, which in turn built up the pressure with regular wickets.

Kalea Moore and Lauren Bell picked up six wickets between them, and the final nail in the coffin was hammered in when Jemimah Rodrigues, who had watched six wickets fall at the other end, departed with 62 required off 27. The rest of the batting order toppled over rather quickly after the skipper, giving the Southern Brave women a long-awaited win in a Women’s Hundred final.
