Melantha Perera: Highlighting the scarcity of essentials

The Sinhala /Tamil New Year was celebrated on a very sombre note, due to the current situation in the country.

The usual gaiety, associated with the New Year, was missing, and renowned artiste, Melantha Perera, decided to convey this… in song.

‘Avurudu Kaale’ was put together by Melantha (lyrics and melody), while Suresh de Silva mixed and mastered the final product.

Highlighting the scarcity of essentials required for celebrating the New Year, one verse talks about… No oil to apply on the head, no milk to boil, money has lost its value.

The location for the video was Melantha’s home, and the visuals feature all the maids who have looked after the singer/musician; a few of them still continue to work at his place.

Yes, ‘Avurudu Kaale’ is about reality…as to how people feel and, for the very first time, they are unable to celebrate Avurudu, says Melantha.
