Solheim – President Wickremesinghe’s International Climate Adviser
Norway’s former minister of Climate and the Environment Erik Solheim has been appointed President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s International Climate Adviser.
Erik Solheim, who arrived in Sri Lanka on Monday (10), met President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Tuesday (11).
Commenting on the meeting, Solheim announced in his twitter handle that he had been appointed as the President’s International Climate Adviser along with the Speaker of the Maldivian Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed.
Erik Solheim said President Ranil Wickremesinghe had a great vision for green economic recovery and for Sri Lankan climate leadership.
Earlier, Solheim served as the mediator between the Government and the LTTE during Sri Lanka’s civil war.
He served as the mediator during the period when Ranil Wickremesinghe was the Prime Minister and the tenure of then President Chandrika Kumaratunga under the controversial Ceasefire Agreement drafted by the Norwegians.
