Reiterating its commitment to transforming Sri Lanka with cutting-edge digital solutions, SLT-MOBITEL, the National ICT Solutions Provider has partnered with the Department for Registration of Persons (DRP), marking an important milestone in Sri Lanka’s telecommunication history by facilitating the authentication of details of the National Identity Cards (NICs) for customers who patronise services from SLT-MOBITEL, through a digitalised platform.

The MoU was signed between Viyani Gunathilaka, the Commissioner General of the Department for Registration of Persons and Chandika Vitharena, Chief Executive Officer, Mobitel (Pvt) ltd., accompanied by senior officials representing both SLT-MOBITEL and the Department for Registration of Persons.

SLT-MOBITEL’s partnership with the DRP ensures its access to the NIC authentication facility hitherto available only to Banks and financial institutions. This partnership will empower SLT-MOBITEL to have authenticated Know-Your-Customer (KYC) details of its subscribers. This will help the organisation to minimise malpractices & fraudulent activities when issuing new connections and other services and will help further improve the National Security.
