SLPP MP’s killing: All indicted persons granted bail

The Gampaha High Court yesterday (28) granted bail to 32 persons who had been indicted for the murder of SLPP Polonnnaruwa District Parliamentarian Amarakirthi Athukorala, and his police bodyguard, on 09 May, in Nittambuwa. The three-member-bench of the Gampaha High Court released them on cash bail of Rs.100,000 and four sureties of Rs. 400,000 each.

The case was taken up before the bench comprising High Court Judges Sahan Mapa Bandara (President), Rashimi Singappuli and D.A. Ruwan Pathirana.

Earlier, five indicted persons, in the same case, were released on bail. They also appeared in Court yesterday.The MP was killed as he was returning home, after attending a meeting chaired by the then Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees.
