SLPP independent group nominees for premiership not presented to Prez – Sirisena

Dissident SLPP MPs had not presented their nominees for the post of Prime Minister to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, former President and the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Maithripala Sirisena said yesterday.

Sirisena said that his party had discussed the recent political developments at length, and several names had been proposed for the post of Prime Minister.

The MPs of the independent group had met on Wednesday, following the party leaders’ meeting, the former President said.

Media has reported that the MPs nominated former ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva, Dallas Alahapperuma and Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe for the post of Prime Minister.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe Prime Minister, yesterday.
