SLN seizes trawler poaching in Sri Lankan waters

The Sri Lanka Navy conducted an operation to chase away Indian trawlers poaching in Sri Lankan waters yesterday morning (07th August 2023). The operation led to the capture of an Indian trawler (01) with ten (10) Indians while poaching in waters off Alampil in Mullaitivu.

The India trawler together with 10 Indian fishermen was brought to the port of Trincomalee. They would be handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries-Trincomalee through the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, for legal proceedings, the Navy said.

The Sri Lanka Navy has already seized 14 Indian trawlers with 93 of fishermen for poaching so far this year.

The poaching trawlers and fishermen have been handed over to relevant authorities for legal action.
