SLIDA prescribes minimum rates for hotel rooms

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) has issued a Gazette Extraordinary prescribing minimum rates for room occupancy and meal services at tourist hotels situated within the jurisdiction of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) area, SLTDA chairman, Priantha Fernando said.

He added the rates will come into effect from 01 October 2023.

The rates are as follows: 5-star tourist hotels –100 U.S dollars, 4-star tourist hotels –75 dollars, 3-star tourist hotels –50 dollars, 2-star tourist hotels –35 dollars and 1-star tourist hotels –20 dollars.

Fernando said rates exclude service charges and other applicable taxes, fees, or charges levied for any other services provided.

He added the gazette has also set the rates for the meals provided for those who have booked rooms: 5-star tourist hotels –10 dollars (breakfast) / 15 dollars (lunch) / 17 dollars (dinner), 4-star tourist hotels –9 dollars (breakfast) / 14 dollars (lunch) / 16 dollars (dinner), 3-star tourist hotels –8 dollars (breakfast) / 10 dollars (lunch) / 14 dollars (dinner), 2-star tourist hotels –6 dollars (breakfast) / 8 dollars (lunch) / 10 dollars (dinner) and 1-star tourist hotels –5 dollars (breakfast) / 7 dollars (lunch) / 9 dollars (dinner).

Hotels that fall under the category of residence or apartments for short-term business (less than one month), will face an additional charge of 15 dollars or its equivalent in rupees per extra guest over double occupancy, Fernando said.
