Sri Lanka Cricket yesterday announced their inaugural T-10 league to be played in June next year with six men’s teams and four women’s teams taking part. The shortest format of the game is popularized by a company called T Ten Global Sports, a Dubai based entity. Having launched the competition in Abu Dhabi a few years back, the company has signed up with a full member of the ICC for the first time and it is expected to be popular. The organizers said they have got the backing of cricket boards of West Indies, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

Each team will comprise ten local players and six overseas signings. The organizers are expected to announce the teams and franchise owners shortly.

“SLC has been pioneers in white ball cricket looking for avenues to make improvements. If you remember, after the English and Wales Cricket Board launched T-20 cricket, 20 years ago, SLC was the first board to conduct a T-20 tournament in the domestic competition. Chilaw Marians won the inaugural event and they were invited by ECB to take part in the tournament in England for the second edition,” SLC Secretary Mohan de Silva told reporters.

Next months SLC will host the LPL T-20 tournament and the board was confident that the T-10 format will further help players to enhance their games and handle big match pressure.
