SLC to host Bangladesh in October
Sri Lanka Cricket has informed their Bangladesh counterparts that the postponed series between the countries could be rescheduled for mid October provided the board gets the green light from the health authorities.
The two countries were set to play three Tests in July but that was postponed due to outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic. However, with the situation now under control and travel restrictions expected to be released next month, SLC is confident of resuming international cricket.
SLC officials are expected to meet health officials soon to discuss the possibility of resuming cricket and the health guidelines that need to be put in place.
Board officials said that instead of playing three Test matches they were looking at the possibility of including some limited over games as well. Ideally, the board was expecting to stage two Tests and three ODIs or T-20s and were waiting for a response from their counterparts in Dhaka.
This year was filled with international cricket for Sri Lanka with more than ten international teams expected to be on show. Only the bilateral series against West Indies was possible as the Test series against England was postponed to July while limited over games against India and South Africa were indefinitely postponed. The Asia Cup too was delayed due to travel restrictions.
SLC were negotiating with Board of Control for Cricket in India to host the Indian Premier League tournament too, but United Arab Emirates was preferred over the island as the venue for the event.
SLC officials are in discussion with BCCI to stage the postponed bilateral series between the countries as this series was expected to bring them much revenue.
