SLC opens a cricket ground in Ratnapura
Sri Lanka Cricket declared open the newly built Ratnapura District Cricket Ground in Monaravila recently, thus providing a much needed facility for the area, which will help enhance the game in the Sabaragamuwa province.
The new ground, which consists of seven center turf wickets, will enable schools and clubs in the district to utilize the ground to play matches, conduct practice sessions and play Under-19 cricket.
SLC President Shammi Silva, declared the facility open, along with the participation of Kanchana Jayaratne, President of Ratnapura District Cricket Association; former Test captain Sanath Jayasuriya, Sri Lanka cricketers Wanindu Hasaranga and Pathum Nissanka.
Ashley de Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket, members of the Executive Committee of SLC and the officials of Ratnapura District Cricket Association and UVA Province Cricket Association were present at the opening.
Cabinet Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi and State Minister Janaka Wakkumbura also graced the occasion.
Constructed under Sri Lanka Cricket’s program to build District Cricket Grounds, covering all the districts in the country, the new ground will be equipped with five side turf wickets and two concrete wickets in the near future.
The ground is the 11th such district ground opened by the SLC.
