SLC can’t sidestep AG: Ex-COPE Head
Former Chairman of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) Prof. Charitha Herath, MP, told The Island yesterday that Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) couldn’t sidestep the Auditor General’s Department.
Cash-rich SLC shouldn’t expect favoured treatment, under any circumstances, the rebel SLPP MP said. “SLC is a brand where ownership lies in the people. That ownership is exercised by SLC which represents cricket clubs. And its financial oversight comes under COPE and the Auditor General does the examination of accounts in terms of the relevant laws.
Dr. Prathiba Mahanamahewa told The Island yesterday that it could be the first case for the newly enacted Anti-Corruption law. Mahanamahewa explained how both public and private sector institutions could be subjected to examination in terms of the new law. (SF)
