SLAF probes shooting incident, where one of its rugby players was killed

The Air Force has launched a probe into a shooting incident yesterday morning (08 April 2024) involving an SLAF Corporal, attached to the Air Force Rugby pool, at a police checkpoint in Padukka.

Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa has ordered an inquiry into the incident. Preliminary findings indicate that there was an exchange of fire between the SLAF Corporal and the police officers manning the checkpoint.

According to police, the injured Corporal, succumbed to his injuries after being hospitalised.

The police officers had sought to apprehend him in connection with a shooting incident in the Moragahena Police area on Sunday 07 April 2024.

This Airman joined the Air Force on 18 June 2009 and he has been attached to the Air Force Base, Ratmalana, as a member of the Air Force Rugby Team.  This incident happened whilst he was on leave.
