SL to integrate electric buses into public transport fleet in 2048

By 2048 Sri Lanka would integrate electric buses into the public transport fleet in keeping with the global sustainability goals, Minister of Transport, Highways, and Mass Media Bandula Gunawardena said during a meeting at the Presidential Secretariat.

Issuing a press release, the Presidential Media Unit said that as part of a comprehensive plan to modernise the country’s public passenger transport service, the Ministry of Transport was taking steps to streamline the system and improve overall efficiency. GPS tracking and E-ticketing facilities would be soon introduced to enhance the convenience and reliability of the public transport system.

A comprehensive national transport policy would also be introduced to address long-standing challenges and issues within the public transport sector, the PMD said.
