SL migrant workers in trouble due to UL delays
Korean Air to operate direct flights to Colombo
By Saman Indrajith
Korean Air will start direct flights to Colombo within two months, allowing Sri Lankan migrant workers to travel to South Korea direct, Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, Manusha Nanayakkara told Parliament on Wednesday (21).
He said that the South Korean government had agreed to commence direct flights following discussions.
The Minister said that Sri Lankan migrant workers had been facing many difficulties as the national carrier SriLankan Airlines flights were often delayed.
He said that within two weeks, Sri Lankan workers would be able to travel to South Korea via Singapore.
Nanayakkara said that several hundred Sri Lankan workers could not reach South Korea on time due to flight delays.
“Employers in the destination country are hesitant to accept them when they fail to arrive on time,” the Minister said.
The Minister made this announcement in response to a question posed by SLPP MP Dayasiri Jayasekera about flight delays affecting Sri Lankan workers travelling to South Korea.
