The main opposition Samagi Jana Balavegaya says the government must go home as it is incapable of carrying out ruling the country properly.

Addressing the media at the Opposition Leader’s Office, in Colombo, on Saturday, SJB MP and Deputy National Organiser S. M. Marikkar said: “When the current President was appointed, it was said he would receive international support and rebuild the country’s economy. But more than seven months have elapsed. Has the economy revived? Fuel is rationed, and we have to consume less food. There are power cuts.

“Nothing has changed since Wickremesinghe became the President. All we have got is the ability to adapt to difficult situation,” he said, adding that debt restructuring was yet to materialise.

Marikkar pointed out that Fitch Rating had downgraded 11 banks in the country and warned that this would lead to all letters of credit from Sri Lanka, losing recognition the world over. “We will not be able to pay for medicine, essential food items, fertiliser and many other necessities,” he said, adding that, therefore, the incapable government had to go home.
