KANDY – Kandy district Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) Parliamentarian Abdul Haleem said in Kandy early this week that SJB would not back a common candidate at the next presidential election because the party had a capable leader.

Last week, SJB National List MP Tissa Attanayake too ruled out backing a common candidate.

Asked whether the SJB would support a common candidate at the next presidential election, MP Haleem said, “We do not need a common candidate. We have an efficient and experienced leader who is capable of bringing victory to the party

The Kandy district Parliamentarian responding to the media said that SJB would contest all future elections from Pradeshiya Sabhas to the Presidential and win them.

The lawmaker said that the United National Party (UNP) performed well during the yahapalana regime under the leadership of Ranil Wickremasinghe. But it ignored the youth that supported it. The government did not take interest in the youth.

This government, the MP said, had taken the credit for the completion of the Central Expressway although it had only a small section of it constructed.
