SJB MP Ranjan’s seat vacant
The Election Commission had been informed that the House seat of Samagi Jana Balavegaya MP Ranjan Ramanayake had fallen vacant, the Communication Department of Parliament said yesterday (7).
Secretary General of Parliament has informed the Chairman of Election Commission that Ranjan Ramanayake has ceased to be a Member of Parliament following a Supreme Court ruling in respect of contempt of court case and accordingly there is a vacant seat in Parliament with respect to the electoral District of Gampaha in terms of the Article 66 (d) of the Constitution.
This notice has been issued by the Secretary General of Parliament in terms of Section 64 (01) of the Parliamentary Elections Act No. 01 of 1981.
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena making an announcement in Parliament yesterday morning announced that Ramanayake’s seat had fallen vacant.
Ajith Mannamperuma, who is next on the SJB Gampaha District list, will succeed Ramanayake (7).
