SJB demands to know conditions attached to USD one billion loan from India
The Samagi Jana Balavegaya yesterday demanded to know from the government the conditions it had agreed to with India to obtain a one-billion-dollar credit line during Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa’s recent visit to New Delhi.
Chief Opposition Whip and Kandy District SJB MP Lakshman Kiriella said no one had been aware of the conditions that the Finance Minister had agreed to secure the loan.
“Parliament has control over public finance. The government has not yet apprised the House of the conditions it has succumbed to get the loan. The Finance Minister has not come to the House for three months. We are not aware of the government’s plans to solve the financial crisis. No government since Independence has obtained loans from India in this manner,” Kiriella said.
