SJB asks whether govt. has no confidence in country’s judiciary to hear X-Press Pearl disaster case

The SJB yesterday demanded to know in Parliament why the government had decided to file legal action in Singapore over the environmental damage caused by the X-Press Pearl disaster.

Chief Opposition Whip and Kandy District SJB MP Lakshman Kiriella asked whether the government had no faith in the Sri Lankan judiciary. “This disaster took place in Sri Lankan waters and our courts have jurisdiction and capacity to hear this case. We demand to know from the government whether it does not have confidence in our courts.
