SJB agrees to support 22A conditionally
By Saman Indrajith
Chief Opposition Whip and SJB Kandy District MP Lakshman Kiriella told Parliament yesterday (20) that his party had decided to vote for the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution Bill the sake of the people and country.
“People are starving and there are no dollars to buy essentials. We left 7,800 million US dollars at the time we handed over power to this government.
We came to know that there are only 20 million US dollars remaining after the Governor of the Central Bank announced it. How on earth did they bring down those reserves? They have stolen that money. As a result of this the people are suffering without food. Now, international assis tance is offered to this country on the condition we implement political reforms. So, we have to support the 22nd Amendment Bill. Meanwhile, Opposition and SJB Leader Sajith said his party would support the Bill on the condition that it would not be amended at the committee state without its concurrence.
