Siyambalapitiya does it again
SLFP MP Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, who was re-elected as the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, on Thursday, has resigned from the post.
Siyambalapitiya, who was the Deputy Speaker, resigned from his post on 05 April. However, when Parliament attempted to elect a new Deputy Speaker on Thursday, Siyambalapitiya’s name was nominated and he was elected with 148 votes.
His opponent, Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s Imtiaz Bakeer Markar got 65 votes.
Siyambalapitiya is to send his resignation letter to the President shortly.
