Former President Maithripala Sirisena, on Sunday, said that he would have to go to jail if he failed to raise 100 million rupee to pay compensation to the Easter Sunday carnage victims as per a Supreme Court order.

“I have been ordered to pay Rs 100 million. I have no money. I am not a rich person. I can only hope that the people will collect money and prevent me from being thrown behind bars, Sirisena told the media.

“I do not own even a motorcycle. I will have to go around the country collecting money. We were a family of 11 members. My father left us five acres in wet land and three acres in dry land. The five acre wet land has been cultivated by my sisters. I cultivated mangoes. Except for that, I have no source of income,” Sirisena said.
