Sineth and Ranithma win U19 titles at 71st National Badminton Championship
Sineth Manthuka and Ranithma Liyanage won the Under 19 boys’ and girls’ singles titles respectively at the 71st National Badminton Championship conducted by Sri Lanka Badminton.The tournament is held at the Sri Lanka Badminton courts, Mercantile Badminton courts and the D.S. Senanayake College courts.
Manthuka defeated Senuk Somarathne 22-20 and 24-22 in the Under 19 boys’ singles final. In the Under 19 girls’ singles final, Ranithma Liyanage beat Praveena Wijesundara 21-13 and 21-6.
Manthuka won his second title when he joined Sajid Majid to defeat Achintha Imesha and Pasindu 21-17, 22-24 and 21-17 points in the doubles final.
The girls’ doubles title in the same age group was won by Dasithma Luthuli and Sithuki Onadi who defeated Inushi Amandi and Praveena Wijesundara 16-21, 21-14 and 21-17.
Roshan Harith defeated Hiruka Sahanmith 21-11, 11-21 and 21-11 to win the Under-17 boys’ singles title, while Dilini Ambalangodage defeated Ranumi Maanage 21-18 and 21-19 to win the girls’ singles title.
Sanuda Ariyasinghe and Thisath Ranthuka defeated Rithira Abeygunawardane and Thenul Rasanjana 19-21, 21-13 and 21-17 to win the U17 boys’ doubles title. Dilini Ambalangodage and Sandithi Dewmini beat Thiseja Herath and Ranumi Suahasni 21-17 and 21-12 to win the girls doubles title in the same age group.
The Under 15 boys’ singles title was won by Senuth Sethmina after beating Kennath Arukkgoda 21-8 and 21-17. Both Sethmina and Arukkgoda managed to secure the boys’ doubles title in the same age group beating Buddhi Shenal and Dinew Wimalarathne 21-15 and 21-12. U15 girls’ singles title was won by Vishwanie Wanniarachchi after beating Nethmi Amaya 21-19 and 21-12.
Isuri Bhagya Attanayake and Sithumi Minara de Silva beat Sandaruvi Jayalath and Ralindi Umagaliya 11-21, 21-19 and 21-16 to win the girls’ doubles title in the same age group.
In the Under-13 boys’ singles category, Thamindu Fernando defeated Yasmith Ganepola 15-7 and 15-5 points to win the final. Sasandhi Guruge defeated Yenuli Liyanage 15-5 and 15-5 to win the girls’ title in the same agegroup. The boys doubles title was won by Thamindu Fernando Senuda Nethila who beat Anuka Kadahettige and Pritish Yasasa 15-11 and 15-3. Sasandi Guruge and Manuli Varavitage beat Yenuli Liyanage and Thisuri Shakya 15-7, 12-15 and 15-10 to win the girls’ doubles title in the same age group.

Boys’ singles final:
Hansaka Rashminda defeated Prasad Weerasinghe 15-7 and 15-13,
Girls’ singles final:
Sanumi Methnara beat Vithsadi Kaushalya 15-5 and 15-4.
Boys’ doubles final:
Hirushan Jayawardena and Navithu defeated Hiruth Fernando and Danula Kumara 17-15 and 21-19.
Girls’ doubles final:
Reshini Prashansa and Vithsadi Kaushalya beat Risindi Akithya and Fathima Ishaq 6-15, 15-13 and 15-12.
