SI leading raid on illicit liquor brewer bitten by snake; sergeant set upon by ganja dealer’s dog

An officer attached to the Crime Branch of the Kalawana Police was hospitalised on Poson Poya Day when he was bitten by a snake during a raid to arrest a moonshine distiller.

Sub Inspector W.C. Gunathilake was leading a team of policemen to arrest a man who was selling moonshine during the Poya day.

In a separate incident, a police sergeant was hospitalised after being bitten by a dog belonging to a cannabis dealer at Hingurakgoda on the same day.

Police said that the cannabis dealer set the dog on the sergeant and escaped during the confusion.
