Showbiz scene brightening up
The glam side of Aquarius – April and Ruwini
The relaxation of Covid-19 health regulations has certainly given some kind of hope for those connected with the music industry, especially where indoor musical shows and weddings are concerned, and also the opening of restaurants, for dining out.
Dining out would necessitate the requirement of some kind of music, on a regular basis, to keep guests entertained.
Last Saturday, the band Aquarius did the needful at The Curve, Park Street Mews, Colombo.
Leader Benjy was a very happy guy and thrilled that they were able to check out The Curve after the easing of the lockdowns, and restrictions placed on entertainment.
However, that happiness turned to sadnes, the next day – Sunday (18) – when his mum passed away.
She was 89 and a great fan of this page – the first to inform Benjy whenever there was an article concerning her son and his band.
I believe it’s imperative that the management of restaurants/entertainment venues STRICTLY abide by the health guidelines, laid down by the health authorities.
They must make sure that a ‘no dancing’ rule is implemented because this scene, invariably, ends up in a packed dance floor.
What they need to do is to invite the public to come along, and enjoy the food, and the music.
It would also be advisable for the musicians, themselves, to keep their distance from the guests. That’s the scene at most venues abroad.
With vaccines now coming Sri Lanka’s way, in plenty, there is talk that the country can be reopened, completely, by September, or October, this year.
However, one must always keep in mind that this virus is very unpredictable, and Dr. Asela Gunawardena, the Director-General of Health Services, has stated that the level of permitted functions can be subjected to amendment, depending on the epidemiological situation.
