Shasheen guides Devapathiraja, Lakshan excels for Mahinda
Under-19 Division I Tier ‘B’ semi-finals
by Reemus Fernando
Jeewaka Shasheen scored a match deciding century for Devapathiraja and Kavidu Lakshan came up with impressive all round performances for Mahinda as the two teams advanced to the Under-19 Division I Tier ‘B’ final on Sunday.
Shasheen scored a century in adversity as Devapathiraja posted 200 runs thanks to his back to the wall knock against Dharmasoka at BRC ground. Batting first Devapathiraja lost wickets at regular intervals but Shasheen managed to anchor the tail with his determined knock which included six fours and four sixes. Despite losing nine wickets for 153 runs, Shasheen kept his cool to add 47 runs for the tenth wicket with Chaminda Sandaruwan.
In reply to Devapathiraja’s 200 runs, Dharmasoka could muster only 160 runs as Shasheen followed up his century with a three wicket haul. Lohan de Zoysa, who played a vital part in guiding Dharmasoka to the semi-final once again excelled with an unbeaten half century but his efforts were in vain as others failed to make substantial contributions with the bat.
In the match played at Thurstan ground, Navod Paranavithana and Kavidu Lakshan scored quick fire half centuries for Mahinda to post 196 runs in their allotted 23 overs before the latter came up with a five wicket haul to contain Ananda to 124 runs.
