Serial ATM robber arrested

Police have arrested a person who is alleged to have robbed nearly Rs 10 mn from an ATM belonging to a state bank in the Kurunegala police area.

Police headquarters said that Kurunegala police had arrested him during a raid at Urathenna in the Bingiriya police area. According to police, the suspect had forced open the ATM at Gattuwana junction, Kurunegala on Feb 04 and removed money while pretending he was engaged in repairing it.

Police identified the suspect as 33-year-old Vidusha Indunil.

Investigations have revealed that the suspect had stolen money from an ATM installed near Minneriya army camp some time ago. He was arrested subsequently for abortive bids to break open one ATM in Bingiriya police area and two more in Anuradhapura but received bail recently.

Police recovered a gold chain and gold bracelet bought from stolen money in addition to Rs 550,000 motorcycle and one iPhone worth Rs 370,00. (SF)
