Dengue rages again

Dengue is on the rise and if anyone had symptoms such as fever and body aches, he or she should immediately seek medical treatment, Senior Consultant Physician at the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH), Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama said.Dr. Wijewickrama urged people not to take any drugs except paracetamol if they had fever and body aches.

He advised them to undergo blood tests. Dr. Wijewickrama added that they had detected an increasing number of dengue patients in recent days.

“Over 2,500 cases were detected during the past eight days. Most dengue cases are reported from Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Galle, Jaffna, Ratnapura and Kegalle districts.He said that the only way to beat dengue was to identify mosquito breeding sites and destroy them. The government is carrying out an anti-dengue campaign between June 15 and 21 in the Western Province.
