Security forces want a political solution

Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva yesterday said that he along with the heads of the tri-forces had requested the Speaker to convene a party leaders’ meeting to resolve the current political turmoil.

General Silva added that he had asked the Speaker to inform them and the nation of the decision taken at the party leaders meeting.

“There is confusion about what will happen following the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. There was unrest today because of the uncertainty about this. The Speaker is expected to make an announcement to the public in this regard,” he said.

General Silva urged the public, especially the youth, to help the tri-forces and the Police to maintain law and order until a new President is elected.
