Secretary General of Parliament nails social media canard

Secretary General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake yesterday said that not a single member of parliament had tested positive for COVID-19 virus, contrary to reports in social media.

Dasanayake said that a Parliament staffer had been recently hospitalised. Tests had confirmed that he was not infected with COVID-19 and he had been sent home for 14 days quarantine, the Secretary General said.

The place where he worked and the surrounding premises had been completely disinfected as a precautionary measure Dasanayake said..

Random PCR tests had been conducted on 100 staff members and the tests confirmed that none of them had contracted the coronavirus, the Secretary General said.

He said that the proceedings of Parliament will continue as usual without any hindrance.
