Scrabble for senior citizen at Colombo Hilton on Apr. 30

The premier scrabble tournament in the country, Senior Citizens Association scrabble tournament will be held at the Hilton Hotel, Colombo, on April 30.The organizers said senior scrabble enthusiasts will have a pleasant day vying for the top places in the competition which will take place from 8am to 6pm and is open to those who are over 55 years of age.

They explained the tournament will be played in two categories – the Championship category and the Intermediate category (the A and B groups). Players who are very proficient can take part in A, and those who are less so, in B.

The dictionary used will be Collins Official Scrabble Words 2021 The entry fee is Rs.1,500. Lunch will not be provided, but interval and tea time snacks will be provided by the hotel.

“Since scrabble is a very competitive mind sport, it involves memory, word power, strategical thinking and arithmetical skills, and as such, it helps keep Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia at bay. Therefore, it is ideally suited for those who are aging.
