The Colombo Scout Camporee, the annual flagship event of the movement, is currently being held as a virtual, multi-day event with the participation of over 4,500 ‘Singithi’, Cub, Junior, Senior, and Rover scouts, as well as Scout Leaders. The event, which is now being held for the 55th time, commenced on Wednesday (23) and is scheduled to end on Dec 29.

Cub Scout Mohamed Farzan Mohamed Ammar of ‘11th Colombo Scout Group’, who is one of the 10 students that scored 200/200 in this year’s Grade 5 Scholarship Exam, has been named the Brand Ambassador for the event. The Colombo District branch of the Sri Lanka Scout Association has organised the event.

Commenting on this event, Colombo Scout District Commissioner Amil Abeysundara said: “We are confident that this Camporee will be the biggest virtual, multi-day local event to be held in Sri Lanka. This is a proud moment for all of us Scouts and is a true reflection of how the Colombo Scouts have kept to their motto of ‘Be Prepared’.”

Organising Commissioner of the 55th Colombo Camporee, Supun Jayalath, said: “The challenging times we live in due to the COVID-19 Pandemic inspired the Colombo Scouts to think out of the box and organise a virtual camporee.”

The event consists of a comprehensive, non-formal educational programme; including virtual campsite building, 30 skill-o-rama activities, a cub talent show, Christmas carols, yoga and counseling sessions, international cultural exchange programmes, and online workshops.
