The Supreme Court yesterday (23) ordered the Attorney General to file before 04 May, up-to-date details of Cabinet and State Ministerial portfolios.
Petitioner Kapila Renuka Perera, an Engineer by profession has complained to the Supreme Court that the Cabinet is unconstitutional. There should be 30 Cabinet Ministers and 40 State Ministers. But in reality there are 32 Cabinet Ministers and 44 State Ministers. Hence the Cabinet is unlawful.
Yesterday, Attorney-at-Law Dharshana Weraduwa complained to the Supreme Court that while the original petition, filed by Kapila Perera, was before the Court, the President had further changed the Ministerial portfolios.
That was unlawful, he said.
The Attorney General was given time till 04 May to submit to Court the present details of Cabinet Portfolios. The petition will be supported on 18 May. Additional Solicitor General Indika Demuni de Silva, PC appeared for the Attorney General. The bench comprised Justice Murdhu Fernando, Justice Gamini Amarasekera and Justice Shiran Gooneratne.
