The Supreme Court fixed for 25 March, the inquiry, pertaining to a charge of contempt of Court against Ranjan Ramanayake, former Samagi Jana Balavegaya Member of Parliament for the Gampaha District.
Anura Meddagoda, President’s Counsel, told the court that his client Ranjan Ramanayake wished to tender an apology for a statement he had made at Wadapitiya debate on 20 November 2021.
Counsel Meddagoda also requested the Court to grant the accused Ramanayake permission to attend a Cinema Festival at the Savoy Cinema, where a film in which Ramanayake had played a dual role was to be shown.
The Supreme Court turned down that request since Ramanayake is already serving a 10-year rigorous prison term.
Ramanayake was produced in Court yesterday by the prison authorities.
The Supreme Court bench comprised Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, Justice S. Thurairajah and Justice Yasantha Kodagoda.
