Sampanthan’s letter to Modi held up
By Dinasena Ratugamage
TNA MP Selvam Adaikalanathan has said the political parties representing the Tamil speaking people could not send a letter to Indian PM Narendra Modi asking for his assistance because MPs Mano Ganesan and Rauff Hakeem had not signed it.
Last week, TNA leader R. Sampanthan announced that he would write to Indian Prime Minister Modi seeking the latter’s support to win the rights of all Tamil speaking people in the North and East of Sri Lanka. He said that he would also seek Modi’s assistance in securing equal rights for Muslims, living in the North and the East.
The TNA leader said that Muslims and Tamils in the North faced many problems and that they should unitedly act as Tamil speaking people.
Politicians in the North and East had also been affected by the delay in holding the provincial council election, Adaikalanathan said. Adaikalanathan said that the Sri Lankan government was not taking steps to fulfill the aspirations of the Muslims and Tamils and they were therefore seeking an impactful intervention from Modi.
