Tamil National Alliance (TNA) leader R. Sampathan has alleged that unnecessary US and Chinese interventions in Sri Lanka’s internal affairs undermined Indo-Lanka relations.

Sampanthan, who represents the Illankai Thamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK), a constituent of the TNA, expressed serious concern over foreign interventions to the media after having received Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay at his Vavuniya Office.

Sampanthan said that lengthy discussions had covered post-war development in the Northern and Eastern Provinces. The TNA also requested HC Baglay to facilitate an early visit by Indian leader Premier Narendra Modi to Jaffna. Sampanthan said that Premier Modi should be here to inaugurate the Indian funded cultural centre in Jaffna under construction (adjoining the Jaffna Public Library- Pullukulum) at a cost of Rs 1,800 mn.

Referring to a range of ongoing Indian projects implemented in terms of bilateral agreements, Sampanthan said that troubled Indo-Lanka relations were a major problem.
