Sajith warns political turncoats about wrath of people
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa told Parliament yesterday that those who switched their alliances for their personal gain would face the wrath of the people for betraying their trust.
Participating in the debate on Emergency regulations, Premadasa said that the biggest emergency to be taken into immediate concern of the government was the starvation of people and their suffering due to the shortages of essentials including medicine.
“The government is talking of an emergency. It is in a mighty hurry to implement its plans to unleash state terrorism against people. We have noticed that the ministers issue threats to people who are raising their voice. People of this country have only the problem of finding food, medicine, fuel and gas. The government is hell-bent on getting these emergency regulations passed in Parliament not for the sake of the people but to consolidate its power. Dreams of the President, the Prime Minister and Leader of the House have come true, while those of 22 million people have been destroyed,” Premadasa said, adding that it was the duty of the people’s representatives to vote against the Emergency regulations.
