Sajith says govt’s next surprise to people will be continuous power cuts
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa says that the government has been springing surprises to the people continuously during the past few months and the next surprise on the card will be power cuts.
Speaking at a ceremony held at Samanthurai on Tuesday to hand over medical equipment worth over Rs 2,990,000 to the Samanthurai Base Hospital under the Jana Suvaya project of the SJB, Premadasa said the government had been giving surprises, one after the other, during the recent past in the form of cutting off fertiliser subsidy and exploding domestic gas cylinders. “The next surprise will be continuous power cuts,” Premadasa said.
The Opposition Leader said that the ruling party had captured power promising the people vistas of prosperity and splendour but the people were now actually experiencing vistas of darkness. “They came to power promising national security and to safeguard people. However, today people are compelled to find ways and means to save themselves from the government. People are denied the freedom of expression. They have lost their rights to engage in democratic politics. This is a government that violates the rights of people on a round the clock basis,”Premadasa said.
The opposition Leader said that the government had been eyeing workers’ savings in the EPF but the Opposition and other progressive forces had succeeded in holding it at bay.
