Sajith promises revolutionary economic reforms
The Sri Lankan economy could be revitalised through systematic and revolutionary economic reforms, Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa said in Colombo recently. He added that any plan to revitalise the country must attempt to reduce corruption dramatically.
“This can be done with changes to procedure and introducing new laws. A lot of money has been taken out of the country by corrupt individuals. We will take steps to recover these sums. The current crisis is not an economic crisis per se, but an issue of state administration,” he said.
Premadasa said that communism or extreme capitalism isn’t the way out of the current crisis.
“We need to modernize our education system. We must focus on Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics subjects. We are opposed to extreme forms of capitalism. We believe in a strong welfare state. Even countries like the UK has free healthcare,” he said.
