Sajith: President has placed country at mercy of foreign powers

The Gotabaya Rajapaksa administration had created a black market for fuel, gas and medicine, Opposition Leader, Sajith Premadasa said.

The Opposition Leader said that the President and his government had followed disastrous policies and now Sri Lanka was now at the mercy of external powers.

“The government is not trying to increase the foreign reserves of Sri Lanka, ministers are trying to increase their personal foreign reserves,” he said.

Premadasa said an illegal commission had been obtained from an agreement to supply LP gas and it was similar to the Treasury bond scam.

“This was revealed at the COPE, but there is a concerted effort to hide the truth from the people. Now, there is a black market for fuel, gas and medicine. Media reports that gangs are controlling gas stations. There is a breakdown of law and order. People are sick of the Rajapaksas but they are protected by some gatekeepers and some unscrupulous elements who are trying to embezzle money,” the Opposition Leader said.
