Sajith condemns Health Minister’s move to gag  PHIs

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday in Parliament lambasted a circular issued by the Health Minister preventing health officials from revealing details about the existing pandemic to the media.

 Premadasa said it was an attempt to cover up the gravity of the pandemic situation.

The Ministry of Health had issued a circular barring PHIs from speaking to the media about the country’s COVID-19 situation, he said. 

“No one in the medical profession is allowed to air his or her views on COVID-19,” said Opposition Leader Premadasa.

 The Opposition leader asked what the unions and professional associations in the state health sector would have to say in response.

 “Does this apply to them as well? It’s basically telling doctors not to talk about the dangerous crisis facing the country,” he said.
