Sajith complains of witch-hunt against anti-govt. protesters
Opposition and SJB leader Sajith Premadasa told Parliament yesterday (5) that charges against Sri Lanka at international human rights forums were being amply substantiated by the government itself by the use of police and security forces to suppress the people’s voice.
“Peaceful protests by students are being attacked by the police. These repressive actions help substantiate the human rights allegations against this country.
The life of Inter University Students’ Federation Convener Wasantha Mudalige is in danger because he is taken out from the detention centre at night by prison officers to inspect certain suspicious locations, Premadasa said.
He urged the government to explain the anti-government activities committed by Mudalige, Inter University Bhikkhu Front Convener Galwana Siridhamma Thera, and student activist Hashan Gunatilake who are currently held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
The government must stop the witch-hunt against anti-government protesters, Premadasa said.
